Sound Healing

Percussion instruments to shake and rattle Sound healing is as old as Man himself. We instinctively know that connecting with sound raises our spirits and makes us feel better.

We are energy bodies and energy vibrates. Every organ, tissue and bone in our body vibrates and produces sound. When disease affects a part of the body, it changes its vibratory rate and a different sound pattern is created. It therefore makes perfect sense to use sound as a healing tool to restore the original sound pattern because this encourages and facilitates the process of healing. The principle behind this method is treating like with like which is also the foundation of homeopathy.

Throughout history the human voice has been prominent in its role as both a healing and diagnostic tool. The quality of the voice tells us about the physical, mental and emotional condition of the individual. The way the voice is used reflects the energies, thoughts and feelings of that particular person. Tune into the voice and you have a mirror to the soul.

Mantras, a vocal tradition originating from the East, can be a sacred syllable, word or phrase that is repeated many times. The purpose is to concentrate the mind and to connect with some aspect of spiritual power. Mantra chanting is one way to enter a different state of consciousness. It is also a form of self-healing.

Sound self-healing is the pro-active alternative equivalent of conventional preventative medicine. Here are some ideas to get you started.

Singing either alone or with others Mantras, chanting and toning Playing an instrument Active listening to music Sounding your chakras Taking sound essences Listening to the sounds of your own body Taking a walk in the country and actively listening to the sounds around you

The use of sound to promote healing has captured the imagination of several famous people. Nostradamus, born 1503,a French seer and adept in astrology and astronomy, foretold that cancer would be healed through the use of pure tone by the year 1998. The German educator Rudolf Steiner (1861-1925) made a similar prophecy, that pure tones would be used for healing before the end of the 20th century. However, the psychic Edgar Cayce (1877-1945) went even further. He declared that sound would be the medicine of the future. A psychic I know, who already knew all about our new sound essences through her guidance, called them “spiritual medicine.”

Tibetan bowls and bells Tuning forks and crystal bowls

Sound medicine and sound healing do seem to have expanded into physical manifestation at this point in time. Tuning forks, Tibetan bowls and crystal singing bowls are used in sound therapy. Chanting, toning and singing groups abound. The music industry appears to be booming too. It suggests that Edgar Cayce was spot on to declare sound the medicine of the future.
